Indonesian slang

Kepo

Nosy; curious about other people's business.

Origin:
Usually traced to Hokkien 家婆 (kay-poh, “busybody”)

How it's used

Kepo describes someone who always wants to know what's going on with others — who's dating whom, how much you earn. The same Hokkien word gives Singapore and Malaysia's kaypoh. It can be a mild put-down (kepo banget sih!) or a cheerful admission of your own curiosity (aku kepo). Casual.

Examples

  • Kepo banget sih, mau tahu aja urusan orang.

You're so nosy — always wanting to know other people's business.

  • Aku kepo, sebenarnya mereka pacaran nggak sih?

I'm curious — are they actually dating or not?
