Indonesian slang
Gabut
Bored with nothing to do; idle.
- Origin:
- Often traced to gaji buta (“blind salary”, being paid without working)
How it's used
Gabut is what you are when there's nothing to do and you don't know what to do with yourself — between tasks at work, on a slow afternoon, or during a long holiday. It's very common among young Indonesians in chat and on social media. Casual; you wouldn't use it in a formal setting.
