Indonesian slang
Anjay
Whoa! / Damn! — an exclamation of surprise or amazement.
- Origin:
- A softened form of anjing (“dog”), used as an exclamation
How it's used
Anjay is what you blurt out when something is impressive or shocking. Because it's a softened swear word, it's much milder than anjing, but it's still crude: fine among friends, not with parents, teachers or at work. It's usually positive (anjay, keren!) rather than an insult.
Examples
Anjay, mobil barunya keren banget!
Damn, his new car is so cool!
Anjay, nilai ujianmu seratus?
Whoa, you got a hundred on the exam?
